Nissan and Honda Collaborate on Electric and Intelligent Vehicles

Tokyo, Japan – March 15, 2024 – Nissan Motor Co., Ltd. and Honda Motor Co., Ltd. today announced that they have signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) to explore the potential for collaboration in the development of electric vehicles (EVs) and intelligent transportation technologies.

The MOU is non-binding and will allow the two companies to study the feasibility of working together on a range of areas, including:

  • EV platforms and components
  • Software platforms
  • Safety technologies
  • Connected car technologies

The collaboration is expected to leverage the strengths of both companies and help them to accelerate their development of next-generation EVs and intelligent transportation technologies.

On this occasion, President and CEO Makoto Uchida said: It is essential to prepare for the rapidly changing future of mobility in the near and long term. The MOU with Honda is a result of our understanding and belief that we face the same challenges. We look forward to further discussions and expanding our future cooperation with our partners to find innovative solutions that will contribute to sustainable growth.

Honda CEO Toshihiro Mibe said: We are living in a critical and pivotal time in the history of the automotive industry, as the sector is undergoing a massive transformation that is the largest of its kind in this century. Therefore, we intend to study the possibilities of cooperation with our partners at Nissan, with specific criteria focused on achieving a balance between the technologies and expertise of both parties. We also aspire, through this partnership, to create new and advanced value in the automotive industry so that both companies can become leaders in the sector.

It is worth noting that Nissan Motor is relatively advanced in the field of electric vehicles compared to other Japanese automakers due to its early history in this field. Nissan was one of the first companies to offer an electric car, the Leaf, which went on sale in late 2010. The Leaf has proven itself to be one of the leading electric vehicles in the global market, cementing Nissan’s position as a leader in electric mobility.

Here are some additional details about the collaboration:
