Red Sea Global (RSG), the developer behind the regenerative tourism destinations The Red Sea and Amaala, has announced that its flagship destination boasts world-beating mobile internet speeds.

In an independently published report by Ookla using Speedtest measurements conducted in Q3 and Q4 2023 across The Red Sea destination show an impressive median download speed of 696.37 Mbps – which is 86% faster than the top ranked city worldwide based on the December 2023 results and a median 5G download speed of 980.58 Mbps.

“Today’s modern travelers want to relax and disconnect, but at the same time remain connected with their loved ones. Our Gigabit 5G network enables guests to connect with their loved ones and share their experiences in real time. It also ensures we can deliver on our seamless experiences, whether at the resorts or our airport, or while guests are out and about exploring the destination,” said Dr. Ahmed Ali Alsohaily, Group Head of Technology at Red Sea Global.

The Speedtest Global Index™ by Ookla ranks mobile and fixed broadband speeds by country and by city on a monthly basis. Its latest results show Dubai has the fastest mobile speeds worldwide. As independently measured and published by Ookla, speed tests at key spots at The Red Sea destination, revealed its Six Senses Southern Dunes resort, The Red Sea, boasts an incredible 5G median download speed of 1,446.04 Mbps. On the other hand, the Red Sea International Airport provided 5G median download speeds of 1,276.65 Mbps while Ummahat Islands, which are home to St. Regis Red Sea Resort and Nujuma, A Ritz Carlton Reserve, enjoy 5G download speeds of 992.33 Mbps. Turtle Bay, the central hub for employees to live, work and relax, recorded a median 5G download speeds of 844.54.

Over 100 4G and Gigabit 5G cell activations have been completed at telecommunications towers across The Red Sea destination, AMAALA destination and the roads connecting them in collaboration with Zain KSA, stc and Mobily. The collaboration extended to the deployment of new towers with innovative designs as well as upgrading existing towers serving the highways and roads in the areas of the projects. While providing outstanding connectivity to deliver exceptional vacation experiences, RSG maintained its stringent environmental standards by powering the entire network using 100% renewable energy.

Dr. Alsohaily added: “We are proud to have successfully redefined luxury ecotourism by combining connectivity and smart technologies with our commitment to sustainability and conservation. Through the strong Gigabit 5G network at our international airport and premier resorts, we are well positioned to deliver a seamless and memorable guest experience. Most importantly, the fact that The Red Sea destination enjoys speeds exceeding the fastest city in the world by over 86% is proof that being sustainable is not a hinderance to performance is any way.”

The ambitious 5G network build-out was carried out across diverse terrains, including beaches, mountains, and deserts, to provide comprehensive coverage and lightning-fast speeds. RSG implemented unique tower designs and materials so that its infrastructure blends in with the surrounding environment. For example, rooftop antennas were constructed on hills and covered by 3D printed camouflaging at the Southern Dunes to preserve the guests’ views while Ummahat Island used innovative fabrics to blend in with the resort design.

Collaborating closely with operators, RSG ensured the responsible sharing of towers and the optimization of configurations, leading to impeccable network performance with unprecedented speeds globally.

In 2023, The Red Sea welcomed its first guests. Two of its hotels are now open and the Red Sea International Airport has been receiving a regular schedule of flights since September 2023. Upon completion in 2030, The Red Sea destination will comprise 50 resorts, offering up to 8,000 hotel rooms and more than 1,000 residential properties across 22 islands and six inland sites. The destination will also include luxury marinas, golf courses, entertainment, and leisure facilities.
